Catching Up

It's been awhile since I've posted anything, but I do have several LOs to share! There are three new pages in this post, but I have another five that I will include in a different post.

12x12 LO ~ Features photos I've taken this month (August '08) of the flora and fauna around our property. The page design is my own template, inspired by a "Cricut" ad in the July 2008 issue of Creating Keepsake magazine. This is my first template and though it's not very elaborate, I really like it!

Papers - Kristin Cronin-Barrow (Sweet Shoppe Designs)

Fonts - Packard Antique & CK Ali's Hand Official

12x12 LO ~ Another shot from our garden. Don't if this is a weed or a flower, but I thought it was pretty.

Paper - Kellie Mize (Designer Digitals)
Word Art - Lynn Grieveson (Designer Digitals)
Brush -

12x12 LO ~ This is the final project for the "Digi: in Deep" class at It was a complicated LO, but enjoyable to do and I learned some new techniques. I plan to make a second page to go with this one...sometime!

Blue background paper - was actually created in Photoshop, using a texture pattern and another pattern called NRJ PDQ by Nancie Rowe Janitz (

Grid Notebook paper, journaling strip, grungy flourish brush and torn frames - Katie Pertiet (Designer Digitals)

"Jenner ~ Then & Now"

This is my version of JSprague's Digi: in Deep, lesson 2. Jessica's original LO was blue and green and featured a star shape, rather than the heart I chose for my page. Also, her "&" was striped, but as you can see, I chose to go with pink floral to better match the theme of my page. One of the new techniques we learned in this lesson was to blend together two photos -- a cool technique on which, obviously, I still need to work! We also learned how to make our own pattern paper (used for the heart) and our own brush/stamp (the numbers pattern on the heart and the photos). Details, below.

12x12 LO - featuring photos of my sweet daughter, Jenni; the first, at 3 months old and the second, at 22 years old.

* Background papers and pink floral paper - Anna Aspnes (a fellow Alaska girl, BTW!); these purple papers were originally a lime green, retinted here for the project
* Rounded corner square die cut (rounded edges on dark paper), journaling lable, grungy photo block and staples - Katie Pertiet
*Fonts - "Alfredo Heavy" (ampersand); "Amerika" (Then, Now), "Anarchy" (numbers) and Century Gothic (journaling, dates on lables)
*Stitching on heart and diagonal stripes on photos were done with a photoshop brush

Photo on left was taken by me; photo on right, by Amy Danzl - Jen & Ivory's wedding photographer.

"Grand" - Kitties!

This is the LO I entered in the "CT Call" last week. I heard from the designer today and she appreciated my entry, but did not invite me to be a part of the team, which is totally okay and really, what I expected! She was gracious and kind and very sweet to have sent me an e-mail explaining her decision. Maybe I'll apply again sometime, but who knows?!

Grunge Overlay: Katie Pertiet

No Place Like Home

My latest layout - this one's for "assignment 1b" of the Digi: In Deep class. The assignment was to use a "compound mask", plus at least two of the other techniques we applied to our first layout for lesson one (see my post below from July 28). Credits, below.

Pattern papers: Anna Aspnes
Brads and ribbon: Dahlia Co
Floral Brush: sleepwalkerfish
Swirl (used in title): Mary Ann Wise
Fonts: Texas Ranger, One Fell Woop ("Home"), VT Remington Typewriter (journaling & date)

Techniques used:

Compound mask; combining font & brush for title; layer mask; semi-transparent journaling block; blended overlay on focal photo.

Found It!

Here's the LO of Cully I was searching for. Isn't she a sweetie?

12x12 LO ~ this was the final lesson in the Up & Running class by Jessica Sprague. It took me awhile to decide on a photo to use, but am glad I chose this one - Cully's such a photogenic little dog and I love her cute smile!

Forgot about this one!

I was searching my files for a LO I made of Cully and I came across this one I had forgotten about! It was mostly finished, but I added the journaling and grunge overlay tonight. Not as detailed and elaborate as the class LO I posted earlier, but I made this one from scratch and it's more "me" :) !

Oh, and it's a 12x12 LO...

Light blue and tan papers: Shabby Princess
Brushes and grunge overlay: Katie Pertiet
Dark blue paper: Christine Nash
Fonts: Rage ("AWE") and VT Portable Remington

Photos taken by me during a day-trip out to Portage Glacier (approx 50 miles south of Anchorage) with my sis-in-law and fellow photographer, Linda B; June 2008. It sure was beautiful and peaceful there - really should go more often!

"Digi: In Deep Class" Began Today!

And here is my first LO from the class...

12x12 LO ~ This new session is going to be more intensive and detailed than the previous two - but that's a good thing, right?! This particular LO is not my personal style, but I really like the way it came together and I'm learning several new techniques and "hot-key" shortcuts, which is really what these classes are all about. Photos taken by me during our camping trip on the Kenai Peninsula, July 2008.

Jen Wilson: background and yellow verticle papers; red paper strips
Katie Pertiet: striped pattern paper; twine
Trish Jones: blue pattern paper
Nancy Rowe Janitz: flourish frame
MaryAnn Wise: flourish brush
Linda Gil Billdal: tag
Linda Grievson: button
Fonts: One Fell Swoop ("See" in title); Texas Hero ("What do you"); VT Portable Remington (Scripture and journaling)

I made another LO yesterday, but I've submitted it for a Creative Team "call" and don't want to share it publicly until the chosen LOs are announced on Aug 5th. I will say that it features photos of my DD, Jen's, 3 cats!

Going, Going, GONE!

Gone Digital, that is!

Since May 2008, I've been taking a series of video lessons for Photoshop Elements from Jessica Sprague - It's been a blast learning so many new techniques and especially how to simply use my PSE5 and PSE6 programs. I'll tell ya - it was very frustrating to have these wonderful programs right at my fingertips and have no clue how to really make good use of them! But now, since taking the beginning and internediate classes from JSprague, I finally have some know-how and have been making some pretty cool pages -- if I do say so myself ;)!

The following 14 LOs are the result of JSprague's classes and my own "playing around" with the various techniques I've learned over the past couple months. Credits and info are listed below each LO. TFL!

12x12 LO ~ This was my very first "from scratch" digital page - photos are from our trip to Montana in January 2008. Paper: Katie Pertiet; created the title using the TEXT tool and changed the color by "picking" from the bottom right photo; used the "moments/photos" BRUSH and changed the color to match the title; used the SHAPE tool to create the line of trees under the title; font used was Tekton Pro

12x12 LO ~ from the Up & Running class series at JSprague. All papers and elements by Katie Pertiet. Photos of Garden of the Gods taken by my dear friend, Linda M, on a trip we took together to visit with our "Scrappin Sisters," Becky & Sheryl in Colorado, May 2008

12x12 LO ~ also from the U&R class. This was my first attempt at using a template - sort of like a Becky Higgins sketch, but digital! I really love using a template, as it makes for quick and easy pages, but since I can choose what specific elements I want to use for a given LO, each page is unique! These photos were taken by me during our trip to Utah in June 2007 (not "2008" as it says in the caption!)

6x6 LO ~ this page was done for a circle journal album; template by Jen Caputo; papers: source unknown - have to check my folders...; fonts: Impact "GOD Speaks" and Inkburrow "through my children." Photos are of my kids: DD Jenni & her husband, Ivory (Amy Danzl, photographer); DSs Chris and J (taken by me) and DS Matt with girlfriend, Kasey (taken by me)

6x6 LO ~ companion page to the one above; template: Jen Caputo; papers by the same designer as above but again, need to search for them. All photos taken by me; fonts: Impact (GOD Speaks) and Century Gothic (caption)

12x24 LO ~ This was the final page for the intermediate class, "Now We're Rockin." Supply list: Jessica Sprague: alphabet for title; Michelle Coleman (papers, brushes, scalloped mask), Leora Sanford (journal block) and Jackie Eckles (twill strips) - all from Little Dreamer Designs and Katie Pertiet (sanded overlay). Photos taken by me during our trip to Florida, June 2008

12x12 LO ~ this was a "from scratch" page as well, made for a "warm color photo" challenge at JSprague. Supplies used - Paper: Eressa Designs "Blue Hue" from Faith Sisters; Sanded Overlay: Katie Pertiet/Designer Digitals; "Simple Noisey" filter: PSE6; Fonts: Mistral (quote) and Century Gothic ("Gandhi"). Photo taken by me in Eagle River, Alaska, May 2008

12x12 LO ~ this was based on a page design from lesson three in the Up & Running class at JSprague. Supplies - all papers from the "Promise Collection" at The Shabby Princess, Acrylic Alpha by Katie Pertiet, fonts: Mistral and ReservoirGrunge. Tree and flower photos were taken by me; focal photo taken by Kasey D; bottom right photo taken by Linda B.

8x8 LO ~ this page and the one following are for a gift album for the bride & groom featured in the photos. This first page was based on lesson three from the "Now We're Rockin" class. Supplies - Katie Pertiet: brushes and frames; JSprague: solid paper (for photo mat and large brush; originally red, re-colored for this LO); Melany Violette: background paper; fonts: Century Gothic (quote) and Dali. Focal photo and 2nd small photo on left, taken by Linda B; others were taken by me. July, 2008

8x8 LO ~ Supplies - Katie Pertiet: sanded overlay; Jen Wilson: pattern papers; fonts: Century Gothic (quote) and Dali (author). Photo and page design by me.

12x12 LO ~ this was for a template challenge at JSprague. Supplies - Simply Sarah: template #42; Jen Wilson: background paper. All photos taken by me on our camping trip to the Kenai Peninsula (AK), July 2008

12x12 LO ~ Week three's lesson from the "Now We're Rockin" class at JSprague. Supplies - Katie Pertiet: all papers and elements (except for "swirl brush"); Mary Ann Wise: Swirl brush. Photos taken by me during our trip to Florida, June 2008

12x12 LO ~ Lesson two of "Now We're Rockin" class at JSprague. Supplies - all papers, elements and brushes by Katie Pertiet; fonts: Century Gothic and Jefferson ("Mexico"). All photos taken by me during our trip to Florida, June 2008 (yes, those are my feet!).

12x12 LO ~ Lesson one from the "Now We're Rockin" class at JSprague. Supplies - Trish Jones: papers, distressed overlay; Katie Pertiet: curled edges; Jessica Sprague: hearts and corner brush; Meredith Fenwick: alpha for title; Solenero, Hawksmont2 & G Valkyrie: brushes; fonts: Century Gothic. Photo taken by me along the Seward Highway, outside of Anchorage Alaska in May 2008 (yes, that's my car!)

I have printed out several of the 12x12 LOs (at Costco) and have been very happy with the results. It's kind of embarassing to say, but I really haven't had any interest in the traditional "paper scrapping" since I've started these classes and, although I plan to continue making cards, mini/gift albums and altered items, digital may very well be "it" for me, regarding scrapbook albums and such... we'll see!

Remember Me?

It's been quite a while since I last posted and I apologize for that... I haven't actually finished many projects lately, but here are a couple of my more recent ones.
